In advance of Tax Day, International Sign Association (ISA) members shared their stories about how their businesses and employees have been affected by the new tax law during a White House ceremony last week.
Nicole Bergstrom of SmithCraft Custom Architectural Signs in Phoenix, Arizona, detailed how she has used tax reform to improve capabilities for her shop. “We are buying new equipment,” she said. “I’m very excited about what the future holds for us.”
Brandon McMillen, an employee at SmithCraft, brought it down to the family level. “Due to a recent bonus I received, my wife Andrea, who is a public school educator, is now able to stay home this summer with our two kids instead of getting a job.”
Also participating in the event were Roy Cox, Aaron Rudd and Steve Carr from Trav-Ad Signs in Huntsville, Alabama. The video of the Rose Garden event is linked at www.signs.org/newsroom.
“Participating in these events raises the profile of the sign, graphics and visual communications industry at the federal level of government and the White House,” said David Hickey, ISA’s vice president of advocacy. “It is important for leaders and representatives to hear the impact that policies like the tax cut have had on their businesses.”
ISA continues to keep its members and the industry informed on tax reform as well as other federal initiatives. A May 3 webinar will feature David Lieberman of Webster, Chamberlain & Bean, LLP, discussing the changing tax rates and deductions and the impact on businesses. The webinar will be at 2 p.m. (ET) and is free for ISA and Affiliated Association members. It is $50 for non-members. More information is available at www.signs.org/webinars.
