The Graphic Communications Education Association (GCEA) awarded Johnny Shell, the Specialty Graphic Imaging Association’s (SGIA) Vice President of Print Technology and Training, the 2018 Sundeen/Simich Industry Support Award. The honor recognizes sustaining members who have made highly significant contributions to graphic arts education over an extended period of time.
“We consider this to be among our most prestigious awards. It speaks to the commitment our industry partners make to our organization, and Johnny, through his continued efforts, exemplifies that commitment,” said Malcolm Keif, President, GCEA.
The award was presented to Shell at the 93rd GCEA Annual Conference at Millersville University (Millersville, Pennsylvania, July 29–August 2). Shell is the 26th recipient of this recognition, which is given to truly outstanding candidates that support graphic arts education and the future of the printing industry by spreading knowledge and skills.
“I am always impressed by how willing Johnny is to share valuable technical advice with the printing community. He expresses excellent, innovative ideas that we can take and use to improve our educational programs. I can’t over-emphasize how much Johnny has helped our association through his shared expertise,” said Keif.
Shell has worked in the industry for over 30 years with experience in graphic, industrial and apparel printing, and has been a vital SGIA staff member since 1998. He regularly teaches workshops across the country and speaks at industry events both domestically and internationally.
Shell is an elected member of the Academy of Screen and Digital Printing Technology, and has received multiple printing awards throughout his career.
