Calendars are time managers – they document the year’s passing on a month-by-month basis.
Some calendars are more than that. There are calendars that are hung on the wall with pride. The “2013 VIP Calendar: Print Inspires Print. Day After Day” from Agfa Graphics is one of those calendars, and it has been named a Gold Medal winner in the “Calendars” category of the 2013 Gold Ink Awards.
It not only immortalizes calendar year 2013, but also is a compilation of the thirteen best images that were submitted in a photo contest among all Agfa Graphics employees. The winning images best represent the theme of sustainability which is at the core of the company’s business strategy.
Agfa Graphics has been at the forefront of bringing leading environmentally sustainable technologies to market including its market leading chemistry-free and low-chemistry printing plates. The company has initiated several award-winning energy and waste reduction programs at production plants around the world.
“Print is a medium that provides inspiration and motivation. It has a unique ability to communicate thoughts and ideas and stimulate conversations. While digital technologies have become important in everyday life, this calendar demonstrates the power of print,” said Deborah Hutcheson, director of Marketing, Agfa Graphics, North America.
The 2013 VIP Calendar was produced using a variety of prepress and printing techniques. Among the Agfa Graphics technologies used in the printing process were Energy Elite Pro thermal printing plates, the Avalon CtP system, Apogee workflow, Sublima screening, Anuvia inks, Apogee InkSave and Synaps Synthetic Paper. Guido Maes Printingdeluxe in Ghent, Belgium printed the calendars in cooperation with Mathilde Studios, Adrien Hendrickx Digital Imaging, Asuvorm laser cutting, Igepa Group, DIOSS Print Solutions, Wirebind and GSIPrinting.
This year’s Gold Ink Award winners were chosen from nearly 900 entries submitted within 48 different categories. Winning pieces surpassed their competitors based on print quality, technical difficulty and overall visual effect. A panel of distinguished graphic arts professionals judged entries over the course of four days. Winning entries will be showcased at the Gold Ink Awards & Hall of Fame Gala held on September 9 during PRINT 13. Gold Ink winners will also be featured in Printing Impressions magazine and on www.goldink.com/gold-ink-
