As last week came to a close and the weekend rolled in, a large-scale IT issue between CrowdStrike and Microsoft resulted in digital signage outages, delayed flights, hospital scheduling problems and general disarray.
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), for example, reported that bus tracking and digital signage in stations may be “incorrect or unavailable” due to the CrowdStrike outage. Throughout the day Friday, the MBTA was working to resolve issues with train scheduling and the corresponding digital signage through the state’s train stations.
Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike said the issue behind the outage was not likely to be a security incident or cyberattack. The company said the problem occurred when it deployed a faulty update to computers running Microsoft Windows.
This just goes to show, as all sign pros know, there is always an unforeseen problem lurking out there. Were any of your installations affected by the outage? Send me an email at [email protected] and let me know!
