Fans that attended Chicago Cubs 2014 spring training games were treated to a new LED video display at Cubs Park in Mesa, Ari. The new displays were designed, manufactured, and installed by Daktronics of Brookings, South Dakota.
The main LED display features a 15HD pixel layout and measures approximately 17 feet high-by-53 feet wide while being capable of showing one large image to highlight live video and instant replays. It can also be divided into separate windows to show a variety of vivid graphics, colorful animations, up-to-the-minute statistics, scoring information and sponsor advertisements. It incorporates excellent image clarity and contrast with wide angle visibility while providing multiple levels of protection from the elements.
A ribbon display measuring roughly 3.5 feet high-by-60 feet wide and featuring 20 millimeter line spacing was included in the installation. It provides the opportunity to showcase sponsors throughout events and show additional up-to-the-minute statistics and game information.
The installation also included a Daktronics fixed-digit scoreboard to provide information such as at-bat, ball, strike, out, hit/error, runs, and inning scores.
As a nod to the Cubs home field, a small-scale, two-sided monochrome marquee display was installed to mimic the iconic red marquee outside of Wrigley Field. It allows fans to stand next to it and take pictures as well as programming their own text onto the displays.
“We’re excited to provide these displays to Cubs Park,” said Brady Jacobsen, Daktronics sales representative. “We understand that spring training has become a larger part of baseball’s year-round fan experience and we’re confident this installation will cater to fan expectations at such events.”
In addition to the equipment installation, the Cubs also received a bank of hours for the creation of digital content to be produced and delivered by Daktronics Creative Services at the request of the team.
Daktronics LED video and messaging display technology offers a long lifetime with minimal maintenance and low power consumption, providing value and excitement for years to come.
