A recognition ceremony was held recently for Gemini Incorporated’s Decorah, Iowa manufacturing facilities to present the Safety and Health Recognition Program (SHARP) Award. The company was first awarded SHARP status in September 2008 by Iowa OSHA Consultation and has retained the award at each inspection since then.
This program recognizes employers who operate an exemplary safety and health management system. Acceptance into SHARP by OSHA singles an employer out as a model for worksite safety and health.
According to Debbie Jameson, Gemini’s Corporate Safety Officer, the credit goes to employees and the commitment they have demonstrated toward safety for achieving the award. “The review process includes two days of intensive review, including all aspects of our safety programs, building and equipment inspections, and employee interviews,” Jameson said.
“We believe safety is our responsibility both in and out of the plants, and we’re continually looking for ways to improve,” she added. “We are very appreciative of the support and assistance by the people at Iowa OSHA. The input and resources they have provided us with have helped Gemini develop an effective and comprehensive safety program.”
“This is no easy task,” added Gemini President Fred Oss. “The SHARP program validates the quality of our safety program, and much work goes into obtaining that status.”
Iowa Labor Commissioner Michael Mauro presented Gemini’s Decorah facility with a Certificate of Recognition on October 31. “I congratulate Gemini and your employees for your efforts to implement and maintain an excellent safety and Healthy program,” Mauro said.
