The International Sign Association’s successful Mobile Crane Operator Safety Certification Training is now available for direct delivery. ISA member companies and non-members simply need to register a minimum number of employees to participate in the certification training and ISA will bring and conduct the program to any location.
ISA member companies need to gather ten employees, either in their own sign shop or by partnering with other local member companies whose employees also need certification. Non-member companies must have a minimum of twenty employees register. All training and written and practical exams will be administered at one location.
The three-day training program and certification testing allows companies to comply with new requirements in OSHA’s Cranes and Derricks in Construction Rule 29 CFR Part 1926. Among other initiatives, the OSHA rules mandate that every crane operator be certified by November 2014, and also requires employers to pay for certification training.
“ISA offers this training as a service to the sign community and we have worked hard to keep the prices lower than the industry average,” said Tracey Cook, ISA’s director of education. “All mobile crane operators are required by OSHA to be certified by 2014. There are many reasons for companies to comply with the mandates now, not the least of which is ensuring a safe job site.”
Once achieved, certification is valid for five years.
Currently about 89 percent of those taking the ISA-sponsored training pass certification, far exceeding the industry average of 70 percent.
“ISA’s mission is to support and promote the worldwide sign industry and this training program certainly aligns with that,” said Lori Anderson, ISA’s president and CEO. “By offering direct delivery of our existing program to members and non-members of ISA at their locations, we hope that the industry can quickly become compliant with this new rule.”
In addition to offering companies the option to bring this training to their locations, , ISA is also conducting training at predetermined locations around the country:
