Nekoosa Coated Products introduced a new concept in restaurant tabletop displays with the “Hoops Madness” game. The combination of augmented reality and Synaps® polyester papers created a stir at the Dscoop and Global Shop conferences earlier this month.
Nekoosa demonstrated the Synaps product’s usability in food service and restaurant applications like table tents, placemats and menus. The company worked with its agency, Rockford, IL-based TREKK to create a unique augmented reality (AR) experience that would bring the gamification concept to life in a real-world application.
At the shows, table tents printed on the Synaps OM 10-mil were used as the trigger to launch an augmented reality basketball game. Attendees scanned the table tent with an AR app on their mobile devices to start game play. Up to four players could participate in any one game, choosing from one of three challenge types: practice, prep, or professional.
Each player had forty-five seconds per game to earn points. Throughout the day, top scores were updated in real-time and displayed on a leader board visitors viewed by scanning a pop-up banner in the booth. Attendees re-visited the booth for a second and even third time just to check to see if their best score was still standing.
Aaron Bares, Inside Sales Manager at Nekoosa Coated Products, gave an overview of the augmented reality game at Dscoop in Washington, D.C. earlier this month. Watch here.
For the paper and print industries and the brands they support, these types of augmented reality experiences are a real game changer. They open up new opportunities for print providers while giving brands new ways to create memorable experiences for their customers.
Combined with Synaps polyester papers, the tabletop display application is a no-brainer for bars and restaurants. Customers can scan the table top and launch an interactive game while waiting for their food or while waiting for the real game to start. It provides customers with endless entertainment and allows them to interact with others in the restaurant as well as the brand. It’s just one of many ways Synaps polyester papers can bring interactivity to the point-of-purchase.
