Daktronics has designed, manufactured, and installed new video displays for Lee Valley VeloPark, a multi-purpose venue that in the past has hosted Olympic cycling events at the indoor velodrome. The installation prepares the venue to host the 2016 UCI Track Cycling World Championships.
“Lee Valley VeloPark has been able to purchase audio-visual equipment, due to match funding from Sport England,” said Senior Activation Manager Dan Buck. “This supports the venue operation to provide top quality corporate days, as well as enhancing our large scale events.
“We’ve been very happy with the service provided to us by Daktronics. Not only have they installed fantastic screens, but the support given throughout the entire process has allowed us to deliver brilliant facilities and content management within our budget.”
The installation includes four LED video displays, one in each corner of the indoor velodrome. The displays will provide live video, replays, welcome messages and advertising as they engage fans in the competition. Each display measures 3.17 meters high-by-5.71 meters wide and features 10 millimeter line spacing to provide excellent clarity and contrast to enhance every image, video, graphic or animation that is shown.
The display locations help fans get multiple views of the action in the event that their seats have any obstructions. The displays are located at eye level from the seating areas making it easy for fans to look from the displays back to the live action and vice versa.
Daktronics video display technology with custom control system integrates seamlessly with Swiss Timing’s standard track timing technology to provide the same statistical timing and information track fans have come to expect at such events.
“Daktronics is very proud to be involved with such an iconic venue,” said Ewan Prentice, Daktronics Europe regional sales. “Located in The Queen Elzabeth Olympic Park and regarded as the World’s fastest velodrome track, to know that Daktronics can be a small part of the visitor experience is great recognition for our company. Our integration with Swiss Timing and ability to interface with the building’s IPTV solution further highlights our capabilities of offering our users a fully integrated system.”
The venue can be rented out for private events where attendees can choose to be instructed about the track, learn how to ride on it and then try it on their own.
