In an effort to help the Bolingbrook, Illinois community clean and restore its river, Orbus Exhibit & Display Group participated in the DuPage River Sweep on Saturday, May 19 at Hidden Lakes Historic Trout Farm.
By participating, Orbus took its environmental goals beyond its own facilities. “Environmental responsibility is more than what we can do in our own buildings; it’s about what we can do to help the community as well,” said Jim Concannon, quality assurance specialist at Orbus.
The clean up included picking up garbage and debris in and along local sections of the DuPage River, as well as helping to clean and reduce pollutants in and near the river.
The River Sweep is an annual event that began in 1991, and since its inception, more than 6,800 volunteers have removed over 190 tons of garbage. Each year, the amount of collected trash declines, which proves this event has a positive impact on the waterways.
The Orbus Exhibit & Display Group considers environmental protection to be consistent with its overall goals and values. Since 2010, Orbus has been certified with the ISO 14001:2004 Certification, which is recognized as an organization’s high level commitment to environmental protection. In addition to ISO 14001:2004, Orbus’ Niles, Illinois facility is certified to the ISO 9001 standard for a quality management system. This same system will be implemented at Orbus’ headquarters in Bolingbrook, Illinois by the first quarter of 2013. The company’s Las Vegas, Nevada facility is working towards certification of both standards.
