SENIOR NEON ENGINEER

Under the direction of the Director of Neon Maintenance, Preservation and Engineering, the Senior Neon Engineer provides overall technical leadership in the planning, management, and cost-effective maintenance and operational engineering of WSF’s vessels ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable management of all assets while maintaining marine engineering and environmental standards in accordance with all regulatory requirements, state statutes, corporate policy, and the collective bargaining labor agreements.

 

 

Salary: $95,316- $116,304 Plus Excellent Benefit Package

Washington State Ferries, the largest ferry fleet in the US is looking for a Senior Port Engineer.

Responsible for: Engine Department Oversight: Manages the day-to-day engine department fleet operations and maintenance activities for 21 vessels to assure propulsion system reliability and efficiency.

Responsible for: Human Resource Planning: Directly supervises both licensed and unlicensed engine department professional marine engineers. Oversees vessel engine department manning, operations, and maintenance program on a 24/7 basis.

Responsible for: Maintenance Planning: Supervises the Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) Project Engineer. Develops, implements, and monitors vessel preventative maintenance, machinery history, and work requisitions systems.

Responsible for: Risk Mitigation: Oversees the department’s hearing conservation and respiratory protection programs for effectiveness, compliance, and continuous improvement.

Responsible for: Budgeting: Coordinates the development, implementation & execution of the Vessel Maintenance, Preservation & Engineering (VMPE) Operating Labor and non-Labor Budgets.

  • Knowledge of all applicable federal US Coast Guard and state Department of Ecology regulatory requirements, corporate policies and applicable collective bargaining agreements.
  • Significant technical knowledge of vessel repair, maintenance, and project management.

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possession of a valid U.S. Coast Guard license as a Chief Engineer limited near coastal and unlimited horsepower.
  • 8 years engine room experience aboard diesel and / or diesel electric powered vessels.
  • 3 years experience in full charge of the engine department watch on a ferry or offshore vessel.

    Desired Qualifications Include:

  • Previous Port Engineer experience.
  • Bachelors Degree in Marine Engineering or Naval Architecture.
  • Project Management skills.
  • Course work in leadership.
  • Collective Bargaining experience
