When the University of Maine Black Bears and their fans return to Harold Alfond Sports Stadium this fall, they will be welcomed by a new LED video display that will be designed, manufactured, and installed by Daktronics Inc. (NASDAQ-DAKT) of Brookings, South Dakota. This display to be installed in the south end zone will measure sixteen feet high by more than thirty-two feet wide and feature a 15HD pixel layout.
“All of us associated with Maine Black Bear Football are excited about the addition of the new video scoreboard!” said Maine football Coach Jack Cosgrove. “As we work to grow the game-day experience for our fans, the new display will play an integral part of that process. It is energizing to anticipate the impact it will have on the atmosphere in and around Morse Field and Alfond Stadium.
“Our thanks and support go out to our great friends, the Morse family for their generosity and support of our program and this great University.”
This display will incorporate excellent image clarity and contrast with wide angle visibility while providing multiple levels of protection from the elements. It is capable of showing one large image to highlight live video and instant replays. It can also be divided into separate windows to show a variety of vivid graphics, colorful animations, up-to-the-minute statistics, scoring information, and sponsor advertisements.
“We are all excited to see the new scoreboard up and running,” said Associate Athletic Director for Development Seth Woodcock. “Thanks to the generosity of the Morse family, the new scoreboard will not only take our fan engagement to another level during home football games, it will also be a real boost for the wide variety of campus events at Morse Field at Harold Alfond Stadium.
“Just as important are the many community organizations and high school teams that will benefit from the new scoreboard. Events ranging from the Special Olympics to high school and college track meets to state championship contests in football and field hockey will be greatly enhanced by this state-of-the-art video scoreboard. It is a wonderful addition not only for our campus but for our entire community.”
On the reverse side of the main video display, a marquee display will be installed to face the outside of the stadium. It will measure 6 feet high-by-20 feet wide and feature 20 millimeter line spacing. This display will provide numerous opportunities to the university, including the ability to promote upcoming events, show university announcements, and highlight university sponsors.
Along with a control system for football, The University of Maine has elected to upgrade their control system for Black Bear hockey at the same time by purchasing Daktronics powerful Show Control System. This will provide a centralized control solution that will operate for events at both venues—Harold Alfond Sports Stadium for football and Harold Alfond Sports Arena for hockey.
This industry-leading system provides a combination of display control software, world-class video processing, data integration, and playback hardware that forms a user-friendly production solution. For more information on Show Control, visit www.daktronics.com/show.
“It is great to partner with the University of Maine on this upcoming installation for Alfond Stadium,” Daktronics Sales Representative Dave D’Amico. “The new displays will greatly enhance the game-day experience for football as well as assist the university with campus communication through the marquee display installation.
“We’re excited to see everything come together and become fully operational in the coming months.”
The installation also includes a Daktronics fixed-digit football scoreboard and a set of delay-of-game clocks in the south end zone. The scoreboard will provide scoring, timing, down and distance, and other relevant statistical game information.
