Daktronics of Brookings, South Dakota, designed, manufactured, and installed a new LED video display system for the Verizon Wireless Center in Mankato, Minnesota. The installation took place this fall to help prepare the venue to host indoor football in 2016 for the Minnesota Havok in addition to being the home of the Minnesota State Mavericks hockey team. The displays were used at the end of October as the Mavericks won back to back games on Friday and Saturday night.
The addition of the new centerhung scoreboard is part of an expansion project that included remodeling of the Verizon Wireless Center arena for locker rooms and training facilities for men and women’s Minnesota State University, Mankato Maverick hockey. The scoreboard provides a significantly enhanced fan experience and helps to augment the recently added spaces for Maverick hockey.
The five-display centerhung system features four identical displays facing each direction and an upper ring display that circles the top of the configuration. Each of the four main displays measure more than 8 feet high by 15.5 feet wide. The ring display measures approximately 2 feet high by 87 feet in circumference. All five displays feature 10 millimeter line spacing for a total of nearly 660,000 LEDs to provide crisp, clear imagery with wide angle visibility to appeal to ever seat in the house.
The main displays incorporate variable content zoning which allows them each to show one large image or they can be divided into smaller windows to show a variety of live video, instant replays, up-to-the-minute statistics, graphics and animations, and sponsorship messages.
“We’re excited to work with the Verizon Wireless Center to bring this new centerhung system into their venue,” said Joey Hulsebus, Daktronics sales representative. “We look forward to this installation having an impact on all events held at the facility.”
Included in the installation is a content package that will be fulfilled by Daktronics Creative Services, an award-winning in-house creative team. Graphics and animations will be customized to fit the new displays and delivered at the venue’s request.
The installation also includes four back-lit identification panels, each measuring 8.5 feet high by 2.5 feet wide, for traditional, static messaging throughout events.
Daktronics LED video and messaging display technology offers a long lifetime with consistent, industry-leading performance and low power consumption, providing value and excitement for years to come.
