InteliCoat Technologies®, a world leader in coated paper, film, and specialty substrates for digital imaging applications, has announced that Wet Stone Graphics, a River Vale, New Jersey-based digital art reproduction shop, has adopted Magic® Brand Inks for the production of its Giclée prints. Since switching to Magic Brand Inks, Wet Stone Graphics has continued to meet the needs of its particular artist, gallery and photographer customers while achieving a substantial cost savings.
“About three months ago my sales rep told me that InteliCoat started selling these inks, and that I could save a lot of money with them, so I thought I’d try them. I use a lot of InteliCoat brand media, particularly their canvas and coated papers, so the brand gave me some confidence. We’re having no problems at all, these inks work great, they use the same profiles as the originals and I’m saving 50 percent,” said Marc Cohen, proprietor of Wet Stone Graphics.
Wet Stone’s clients are highly critical and expect accurate color representations of their originals. The shop produces fine art prints from original artwork, transparencies (slides), or digital files, and uses the Magic Inks with the latest twelve-color printers for unequal color gamut and fidelity.
Wet Stone scans the original work of artists then produces them digitally. Sometimes the reproduction is final, but frequently, the artists further
modify the digital print so that every image is unique. Wet Stone maintains archived images for many of its artist customers so that reprints can be made on an as-needed basis. Producing wide format print for artists can be trying. Wet Stone’s clients are highly critical when it comes to accurate color representations of their originals and the expectation for his Giclée work is very high in terms of image durability. “People expect Giclée images to last one hundred years or more, so we top coat these graphics,” says Cohen. “These are the kinds of prints that people put in frames or under glass. They sell for hundreds and thousands of dollars per print.
“Overall the expectations are very high.”
Artists also have deadlines, so the speed and easy-of-use of his printer is very important, says Cohen. “My artist clients tend to produce in greater volumes during the holiday season,” he says, “but our work for them is steady because there are many events, openings, and exhibits all through the year.”
